Indianapolis - Wanda L. Shaw, 92, was born August 2, 1923 to Floyd and Zella Richardson in Oakland City, Indiana. She was one of eight children all whom preceded her in death.

In 1943 she married Gilbert O. Shaw and they celebrated 65 years together until his death in 2008.

Gilbert and Wanda owned and operated Kleen-Rite Cleaners in Oakland City before moving to Speedway in 1957. They had two children, a son, Alan (Rhonda) Shaw, children Brandon, (Nicole), Brian (Michelle), and Tyler, and daughter Joy (Charles) Jeffras and children Cari, Amber (Chris), Frost and one grandchild Lawson Frost.

Wanda was an accomplished seamstress, making draperies for many local designers. She started Wanda Shaw Draperies in 1968, and continued working until she was 80.

She and Gilbert loved to travel and had visited every state in the U.S. Europe, China, Australia and Russia; and went on over 100 cruises. Wanda never met a stranger and loved to share stories of travel and her family.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, Tri Kappa and Speedway Christian Church.

Special thanks to the staff at Brookdale of Carmel and especially to caregiver Henry Modirim for providing such compassionate care.
